Summer Geocache Challenge at NYS Parks

 

SARATOGA SPRINGS - The Saratoga/Capital District region of New York State Parks will be hosting 50 all new geocaches in 16 state parks and historic sites.

There will also be a drawing for prizes for anyone who completes 35 of the 50.

The geocache challenge will begin on Memorial Day Weekend and will last until Veterans Day.

NISKAYUNA – There will be an open forum on bicycling on May 22.

The forum, called ‘Bike Niskayuna’ will be led by Jason Purvis from CDTC Pedestrian/Bicycle Task Force and Scott Lewendon from Mohawk-Hudson Land Conservancy.

The forum will be held from 7-9p.m. at Niskayuna Town Hall.

NISKAYUNA - A nationally-acclaimed summer camp is coming to Niskayuna. Following is more information:

Invent Now, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and fostering invention and creativity, is pleased to announce that its nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention summer program is coming to Niskayuna for 2013. 

Camp Invention is a weeklong summer day program for children entering grades one through six, created in partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame and the United States Patent and Trademark Office. 

The program engages children to discover their own innate creativity and inventiveness through hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) content.

Niskayuna High School is hosting Camp Invention during the week of July 08, 2013 and July 12, 2013.

NISKAYUNA – Local families and friends are invited to join Niskayuna students Michael Corcoran and David Kosineski for their Golf Tournament to raise money in support of the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life.

The tournament will be held at the at Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park from 11:30AM- 7:00 PM

Local baseball coach honored for 500th Career Win

 

SCHENECTADY – The Head Coach of the SCCC Royals baseball team, Tim Andi, will be honored for his 500th Career Win.

Andi will be honored for his achievement at a ceremony at Central Park in Schenectady on Tuesday, April 2 at 2 p.m. before the Royals first home game against Adirondack Community College.

Four Locals Named to Pan Am Judo Team

 

GLENVILLE – Four people from a Glenville Judo Center have been named to the Pan Am Judo Team.

24-year-old Brad Bolen, 27-year-old Nick Kossor, and 24-year-old Hannah Martin from the Jason Morris Judo Center in Glenville will head to San Jose in Costa Rico for the Championships held on April 18-19.

This event is very significant as it is weighted heavily for the 2016 Olympic qualification.

Habitat for Humanity holds Bowl-A-Thon

 

SCHENECTADY – The Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County is holding ‘Bowl to Build,’ a Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser on Sunday, April 14.

The event will be held from 1-3 p.m. at Sportsman Bowl in Schenectady.  

Business groups, individuals, and teams are all encouraged to bowl for a good cause.

All bowlers are required to get a minimum of $50 per person in donations or sponsorships to be able to bowl.
