Schenectady County sees increase in population | News

Schenectady County has released the 2011 U.S. Census population estimates and the county saw the second fastest growth in the Capital District.
According to the county, it has grown from 146,555 residents in 2000 to 155,058 residents in 2011, an increase of 5.8 percent. That reached a 40 year high since a population peak in 1970. According to the county, the population has increased every year since 2000.
“The County Legislature has worked hard to create a welcoming environment for businesses as well as develop fun and exciting things for our residents and their families to do,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature in a statement. “Our efforts have paid off as people continue to find out what a great place Schenectady County is to live, work and raise a family.”
