Basketball Competition

 

TROY – On Sunday, April 14, more than 80 athletes and coaches from around the Capital Region will compete in the Capital District Local Basketball Competition.

The event, sponsored by the RPI Student Athlete Advisory Committee, will allow local athletes and coaches to showcase their skills and compete for awards.

All events are free and open to the public.

Athlete and volunteer registration begins at 12 p.m. with an opening ceremony at 12:45 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 9, Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops around the world will host the 34th annual Free Cone Day.

The Annual event is a ‘thank-you’ to fans.

The event also and celebrates the introduction of three new Greek frozen yogurt flavors. 

Bike for awareness set for June

 

BUFFALO – Beginning on June 24, Our Ability Inc. will begin a 17 day bike ride along the Erie Canal that will end in Albany.

Our Ability, Inc., founded by quad-amputee John Robinson, is an organization that mentors and inspires people with disabilities through positive video stories. In 2012, Our Ability traveled to London for the 2012 Paralympics where it experienced the power of inspiration, sport and achievement.

Robinson and members of Our Ability will bike, boat, run and walk across the state, looking to attract thousands to join them and support the mission of raising the consciousness with the public of the ability inside all people.

Walking Tour of Proctors

 

SCHENECTADY – On Sunday, March 17, Proctors Theater will hold a free walking tour of the historical theater and arts complex.

Visitors are invited to come early and enjoy lunch at the Apostrophe Café or take part in the Schenectady Greenmarket.

At 1p.m. at the doors to the Mainstage the tour will begin and showcase all of the highpoints within the complex, including the dressing rooms, backstage, GE Theatre, and the Schenectady Heritage Visitors Center.

The tour concludes with a demonstration by area organist Carl Hackert on Goldie, Proctos Wurlitzer organ.

Annual Hannaford Kidz Expo

 

ALBANY – On Saturday, March 2, the Eight Annual Hannaford Kidz Expo will be held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center.

Presented by the new York State Office of General Services the Hannaford Kidz Expo provides families entertainment and education featuring dance and theatre performances, wildlife experts, music, arts and crafts, sports activities and more.

Featured performers this year include Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey CircusFit and a Barney Sing-A-Long as well as interactive activities such as the Reptile Adventure Room, Roaming Railroad, face painting, balloon animals and more.

Price Copper is hosting a Passover Open House on March 3. Following is more information:

Price Chopper Supermarkets will be hosting a Passover Open House to highlight the more than 1,000 Kosher for Passover products available, provide samples from a wide variety of Kosher for Passover products and to get cooking tips from kosher catering experts. 

Passover begins the evening of March 25 this year.

In addition, for the first time, As You Like It catering will be baking – under VAAD supervision – freshly made Kosher for Passover cookies and dessert treats. 

Preorders for the cookies will be taken through March 17.

Work begins on Federal clean-up of former Navy Depot site

 

GLENVILLE - Schenectady County officials have announced that work has begun on the pre-design stage of the environmental clean-up of the former Navy Depot in Glenville.

County leaders have been asking the federal government for several years to help resolve environmental issues at the former Navy Depot.
