Third Annual Electric City Couture Fashion Show to be held May 18

The Third Annual Electric City Couture Fashion Show will be held on Friday, May 18 in the GE Theatre at Proctors. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

The show will highlight new and established local designers. According to Proctors, the event was created and produced in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of Schenectady Art Night. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

The event’s “creative architects” are locally known designers Joleen Button and Katie Pray. Master of ceremony for the event will be Marisa Jacques of YNN and the marketing director is Richard Lovrich.

The fashion competition –Best of Broadway- will be judged by Capital Region judges who’s design knowledge ranges from modeling to marketing.

Beauty and the Beast to come to Proctors

Beauty and the Beast to come to Proctors

The Mainstage at Proctors will welcome “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” beginning May 15 through May 20.

The classic love story will come to life onstage with songs like “Be Our Guest,” “Change In Me,” and “Gaston.” The show is based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film and the show has been seen by 35 million people around the world.

The show runs for 130 minutes with one intermission. Ticket prices range from $20 to $90. Click here for more information on the show.

Co-Founder of Tribeca Film Fest to speak at UAlbany

ALBANY - On Thursday, May 3, Craig M. Hatkoff will be speaking at a town hall meeting about expanded film production opportunities in the Capital Region.

Hatkoff, an Albany native, -will be focusing on the the impact of film production as a sustainable economic driver on the Capital Region economy.

The panel discussion will feature area film, government,  and business leaders, including:

Flogging Molly to perform

ALBANY - On Saturday, June 16, the Celtic Punk band Flogging Molly will perform at the Palace Theatre.

Tickets are $24.50 and $29.50 and will go on sale May 4.

The concert will be at 8p.

Blues competition to be held in Downtown Albany

ALBANY - On Friday, May 4, 13 blues acts will perform in various Downtown Albany Locations in a competition to determine who will perform at this years Live@ 5 Blues Night.

The bands will be performing from 5-9p. Spectators will vote.

The event is free and open to everyone.

Gladys Knight to come to Proctors

Seven-time Grammy award winner Gladys Knight will come to The Mainstage at Proctors on Friday, May 4. The show will begin at 8 p.m.

Knight has had number one hits in pop, R&B and Adult Contemporary as well as success in film, television and live performances.

Ticket prices range from $20 through $75 and the show will run for approximately 60-75 minutes long. Click here for more information.

'Focus on Nature XII' to be displayed at NYS Museum

'Focus on Nature XII' to be displayed at NYS Museum

“Focus on Nature XII” will be on display at the New York State Museum beginning April 28 through Dec. 31, 2012.

The exhibit will feature natural and cultural history illustrations that include artwork from around the world. “Focus on Nature XII” is a juried exhibit with artists who depict biological, geological and archeological subjects.

The pieces were selected because of scientific accuracy, technical skill, aesthetic qualities and originality. The exhibit includes 72 artists from 14 different countries.
